Bespoke concert dress for female soloists and conductors

Standing in front of an orchestra or choir means being part of a whole, while at the same time standing out – whether as a conductor, singer or instrumentalist. This position of prominence on stage calls for a visual, sartorial element, which varies greatly depending on the artist’s personality, instrument and the setting of the concert.

What sets Marillon Couture apart as an exclusive bespoke atelier specialising in classical musicians is its ability to harmoniously combine these aspects, take practical requirements into account and, ultimately, develop stage attire that is perfectly tailored to each individual.

Arrange an appointment and let’s have a chat! Together, we’ll design your very own, highly individual stage outfit.

Elegant and flexible

A dress for every eventuality in a pianist’s concert life: this dress, crafted from moderately stretchy triacetate, drapes beautifully, whether you’re walking on stage as soloist, sitting at the piano or taking your bow at the culmination of the concert.

Sublime

This dress combines varying textures in a tone-on-tone design: the lustrous side of the fabric accentuates the neckline at the front and back, as well as the train, set at the centre of the rear side.

Versatile

Depending on the venue, the dress can be paired with a matching jacket that fastens with distinctive glass buttons. The semi-transparent sleeves, made from sheer chiffon, offer maximum freedom of movement while performing. In particularly cool concert venues, a long-sleeved, flesh-coloured bodysuit can be worn underneath if desired.

Functional

  • Both the dress and the jacket are machine-washable on a gentle cycle
  • Virtually crease-free
  • Lightly stretchy fabric

A two-piece outfit giving the illusion of a dress

The top can be paired with different skirts or trousers. The opulent tulle skirt is ideal for solo performances; when worn with more understated skirts or trousers, it is also suitable for less high-profile settings, for example orchestral or chamber music.

“The two concert outfits – a frock coat and a concert gown – which Maxi Lasheras designed and crafted for me have utterly fulfilled all my expectations. From the initial design right through to the final fitting, I felt thoroughly understood and impeccably looked after. The practical mastery, the choice of fabrics and the attention to detail reflect the very highest standards of craftsmanship. A huge and heartfelt thank you!”

Concert setting plus personality equals design

This asymmetrical ensemble, comprising trousers and a top, was inspired by the realities of performance at the grand piano. The dark blue outer fabric has been embellished with diagonal patterns of sequins, thereby highlighting what the audience primarily sees during the performance: the pianist’s right side and back.

Functional

The dark blue triacetate is slightly stretchy and virtually crease-resistant. Due to the sequins, the outfit can only be hand-washed or dry-cleaned.

Versatile

The trousers and the strap top form a cohesive visual whole thanks to the individually designed pattern of sequins, while also being wearable separately. The trousers can also be worn with a high-necked, long-sleeved blouse for performance situations in which the pianist is less prominent. Here too, a skin-coloured bodysuit can be worn underneath to suit cooler concert venues.

Useful information regarding bespoke concert attire for female soloists and conductors

Here you will find specific details regarding concert wear for soloists and conductors. We would be happy to discuss the individual details of your personal stage outfit during our introductory meeting.
What does the process for creating bespoke concert attire, tailored exclusively to me, look like?
Like any good collaboration, ours begins with getting to know one another: we get to know you and you get to know us. As well as conducting some initial research into you as a musician, we start by listening to you to understand you both as a person and as an artist. On this basis, we then work together to develop initial ideas for designs and fabrics, then discuss how the subsequent implementation can be structured to suit you, your schedule and the locations in which we can meet. This initial meeting can, of course, take place over the phone or online. If you wish, we’ll be happy to come to you.
Is it possible to have a bespoke concert outfit made even if I’m not from Leipzig or if I’m unable to visit in person due to a busy schedule?
Marillon Couture tailors its services to its artists in a multitude of ways. Finding bespoke solutions can extend beyond design and materials to include logistics! Through personal consultation, we can arrange alternative venues for fittings around the time of your concerts or productions. Let’s simply have a chat about it!
To what extent can the support provided by Marillon Couture be tailored to individual needs?
Beyond the design and logistics, we can, of course, also provide you with personalised support, for example by attending your concerts as part of our collaboration, or by analysing photographs and other media, in order to tailor our approach even more precisely to you and your particular concert situations. The same applies to the effect of the outfit once it is completed: where possible and desired, we will happy to assess it with a critical eye either live in the concert hall or in media, and will naturally act if we believe adjustments are advisable.
Are Marillon Couture’s stage outfits genuine ‘suitcase dresses’?
Not every concert dress is suitable for being folded up compactly and transported in a rucksack or suitcase. Depending on where you’re performing and how you’re travelling (wardrobe flight cases on tour with orchestras or hand luggage for a summer festival in a remote location, for instance), we adapt our designs and fabric suggestions accordingly. Alongside cut and design, functionality and flexibility are key considerations that are always taken into account at Marillon Couture.
What fabrics does Marillon Couture use?
Depending on the cut and the style, a very wide variety of fabrics are available to be employed. As a general rule, we select superior-quality materials that meet as many of the practical requirements of everyday concert life as possible (crease-resistant, easy to care for, as stretchy as possible, ideally washable, etc.) This combination of properties means we predominantly employ synthetic fibre blends. However, due to skin sensitivity or simply personal preference, there are artists who prefer to be clothed in natural fibres. We are, of course, more than happy to accommodate this and can present you with a wide variety of fabric samples and colour charts featuring natural fibres, such as cotton or silk.
Can I bring my own special fabrics or embellishments that I’ve brought back home from tours?
It’s not uncommon for musicians to bring their own fabrics or even old items of clothing – sometimes pieces belonging to relatives to which they have a very personal connection – which are to be incorporated into a new garment. Such projects are especially exciting as the new clothes are then imbued with a particularly individual touch.
Is it possible to obtain exclusive design protection for my new garment?
What we create for you becomes a unique piece through the combination of fabric, cut, fit and your personality – a piece that you and you alone will wear. Should you nonetheless wish to ensure that certain details or fabric combinations are reserved exclusively for your design, we can discuss the process and the associated costs transparently at any time. Exclusive protection is only available for clothing made in our atelier.

Consultation and getting to know each other personally

We would be happy to offer you a personal consultation either by telephone or, by prior appointment, in person at our atelier in Leipzig’s Waldstraßenviertel district, close to the city centre. We look forward to hearing from you!
