Welcome to Marillon Couture!

The Marillon Couture atelier is situated in the heart of Leipzig, the city of music, in the beautiful Waldstraßenviertel district. Here, on Gustav-Adolf-Straße, where Gustav Mahler lived and composed his First Symphony, individually designed and superbly crafted concert outfits for classical musicians are created today.

Philosophy

Clothing is communication! What someone wears reveals a great deal about their personality and what defines them as a person and as an artist. Being conscious of this form of communication is of fundamental importance for musicians taking centre stage with hundreds of pairs of eyes fixed upon them.

Stage attire in which a performer feels completely at ease is essential for concert performance in two respects: on the one hand it forms part of that very communication with the audience; on the other, it provides a vital form of security. After all, not having to worry about one’s own clothing in terms of feeling well-dressed and comfortable brings a sense of self-confidence to one’s performance.

To create stage clothing with these attributes, Marillon Couture combines innovative design, traditional craftsmanship and in-depth knowledge of music, of the modern concert business and of the day-to-day realities faced by artists.

The aim of our work is to create exclusive, one-of-a-kind garments that offer maximum comfort, are as easy to care for as possible, while complementing the concert setting and the individuality of each artist with impeccable style. Realising this concept in textile form requires a carefully curated selection of high-quality fabrics that meet the practical everyday needs of professional musicians. As a result, the idea, the cut, the fabric and the musician’s personality can be united to form a harmonious whole.

The foundation of all our work is the close and, in most cases, very personal contact with our artists. After all, creating clothing that carries you and energises your musicianship on stage requires so much more than just good patterns and precise workmanship. In our conversations at the beginning of the process, we listen to you and gain genuine understanding of your wishes.

Whether your ideas are relatively vague or already quite specific, or you already own a garment that just needs the right finishing touch, or you simply wish to be inspired: we’ll tailor our approach to your needs and present you with a range of realistic ideas and initial designs. On this basis, we can create a bespoke, one-of-a-kind outfit that suits you – in the very best sense of the word!

“I’m really glad I chose Maxi Lasheras’ studio for my brand-new concert attire (tailcoat, suit, shirts and accessories). The quality is absolutely top-notch and, ‘on top of that’, the atmosphere is extremely pleasant. I can highly recommend it.”

Maxi Lasheras – founder and proprietor of the bespoke atelier Marillon Couture

When I design a garment for a musician, I place great importance on getting to know the person beyond the initial impression, on understanding how they see themselves, where their preferences lie and what they need in order to feel completely at ease in their concert dress. It is a process of mutual trust and openness, which requires not only creativity in design and expert craftsmanship, but also a keen understanding of the artist’s individual personality.

As a qualified educator and graduate of the Leipzig University of Music, I know the challenges of performing on stage from my own experience and am therefore well placed to adapt sensitively to my musicians, understand them and develop clothing tailored to their individual needs.

I learnt the art of tailoring initially from my grandmother and went on to develop my skills under the tutelage of masters of this craft. Focussing specifically on stage dress for classical musicians, I founded the bespoke atelier Marillon Couture in 2017. Since then, I have been designing and crafting concert attire for soloists and conductors, members of renowned ensembles and orchestras, as well as for chamber music ensembles and entire choirs.

Developing Marillon Couture as a bespoke atelier specialising in clothing for classical musicians, and continually creating new outfits for an ever-expanding roster of fascinating artistic personalities, is a magnificent gift life has given me. Furthermore, our specialism offers me, on a personal level, the wonderful opportunity to combine my deep love of music with my passion for design and the art of tailoring.

In addition to all this, I get to make people happy, give them a sense of security in their own musical lives and, in doing so, make my own small, personal contribution to the success of our music world! When artists feel truly at home in their ‘second skin’, they can give their all to what really matters – their music.
